Four Founders Set Up Pocket Pickle to Host Pop Up Experience at StarHill
Andrew LeeShare
When Ashley Choong and the team at Four Serve Collective launched Pocket Pickle, they weren’t just building a portable pickleball court - they were creating a space where anyone, anywhere, could fall in love with the game.
With a mission rooted in community, creativity, and accessibility, Pocket Pickle sets up a pop-up pickleball experience, designed to bring the sport to new audiences in fun, unexpected settings at Starhill, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Pickleball, But Make It Pop
Pickleball is growing fast in Malaysia, but most of the action happens in formal venues or exclusive communities. Pocket Pickle flips that model by going mobile.
Setup at the mall’s atrium, the space invites first-timers, families, and the curious to step onto the court - no pressure, only fun time.
It’s not about perfect technique or tournament-level play; it’s about movement, laughter, and creating social sparks through play and music.
From 13 May to 22 June, Pocket Pickle is taking over The Starhill’s atrium in KL. More than just a court, the space will host a lineup of vibrant events.
Scheduled Events
- 17 - 18 May, Swipe Less, Pickle More: A DJ-powered social session for those who want beats with their backhands.
- 24 May, Beat the Ace: A challenge-based mini-game for RM15 per entry.
- 25 May, Pickle Clinic: A pro-led session with Coach Gee Ci Long for those wanting to level up.
- 31 May, Pickle Pong Doubles Tournament: Friendly competition for doubles fans.
- 7 - 8 Jun, Pickles & Pours: A social mixer with drinks, vibes, and pickleball.
- 7 - 8 Jun, Pickle Party (Kids-Friendly): Fun activities for the little ones.
The idea is simple, bring pickleball to where the people already are, and make it irresistibly fun.
Four Serve Collective Founders
At the heart of it all is Four Serve Collective - a team of four friends-turned-cofounders who bring their unique talents and personalities to the table (In picture, from left - right):
- Ashley Choong, the operations lead, is a detail-loving quantity surveyor by day and community builder by heart. With a background in interior design, she’s all about creating well-designed, welcoming spaces for play.
- Hannah Bhatt leads the brand’s creative direction and events. A law graduate turned sculptor, she also runs Uncanny Valley Studios and brings bold, artistic energy to everything Pocket Pickle does.
- Samuel Chew, the group’s strategist, once worked as a civil engineer and now thrives in logistics and business development. His knack for planning keeps the wheels of Pocket Pickle turning smoothly.
-
Leon Lee, a finance whiz with more than a decade of experience in investment banking, ensures the numbers add up behind the scenes so that the fun can keep rolling.
Together, they’ve built more than a pop-up court - they’ve created a vibe, a mobile playground for all ages, and a bridge to introduce pickleball to the mainstream in Malaysia.
As Malaysia continues to explore how to grow grassroots sports and build social cohesion through play, Pocket Pickle is a great example of how mobile, community-first initiatives can lead the way.
