PxP bring lawmakers together in a historic bipartisan session, together at presence, is Malaysia Pickleball Association.

Pickleball is no longer just a sport, it’s becoming a bridge for unity in Malaysia. On 11 August 2025, the PxP Pickleball Club at Pavilion Damansara Heights, together with the Malaysia Pickleball Association (MPA), hosted a groundbreaking Parliamentary Pickleball Session that saw lawmakers from across the political spectrum rallying together on court.

A Historic First for Parliament

In a rare show of bipartisan spirit, Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Johari Abdul joined Members of Parliament from both government and opposition parties for a symbolic match. Organised by YB Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen (MP for Bandar Kuching), the session demonstrated how pickleball’s inclusivity and energy can foster connection beyond the walls of Parliament.

Guided by PxP professional coaches Mohd. Shahmirzzy Bin Kelvin and Kid Chan, and supported by the Malaysia Pickleball Association under Acting President Puan Delima Ibrahim, lawmakers experienced firsthand how pickleball blends teamwork, strategy, and laughter, regardless of political affiliation.

Promoting Health, Unity, and Sport

The session aimed to:

  • Encourage healthy, active lifestyles among MPs
  • Inspire lawmakers to champion pickleball in their constituencies
  • Showcase the sport’s inclusive nature across age and background
  • Use sport as a neutral platform for building trust and understanding

Kyan Yap, Founder of PxP Pickleball Club, described the significance of the event:

“Hosting our nation’s lawmakers at PxP is a proud moment. This is more than just a game, it’s a movement that unites people, promotes health, and strengthens communities. Having Parliament’s support will accelerate pickleball’s growth nationwide and put Malaysia on the global map.”

Speaker of Parliament Commends Initiative

Tan Sri Johari Abdul praised the collaboration between PxP and MPA:

“I commend PxP Pickleball Club and the Malaysia Pickleball Association for their vision in promoting this world-class sport. Today’s session showed that pickleball can bridge divides and strengthen bonds between leaders across the political spectrum. This is a model for how sport can drive health, unity, and wellness nationwide.”

The session featured cross-party participation from:

  • Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen – Bandar Kuching
  • Young Syefura Othman – Bentong
  • Wong Shu Qi – Kluang
  • Prabakaran Parameswaran – Batu (KL)
  • Larry Sng Wei Shien – Julau
  • Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy – Kalabakan

  • Chong Zhemin – Kampar

MPA Acting President Puan Delima Ibrahim expressed her pride in seeing pickleball reach the highest levels of leadership:

“Pickleball in Malaysia started in Miri, Sarawak in 2019. Today, it has spread to every state. To introduce the sport to Parliament is an honour, and we believe this moment will inspire even more Malaysians to pick up a paddle.”

Recognition and Friendship

The day also included symbolic exchanges of goodwill. PxP presented Tan Sri Johari Abdul with a Franklin C45 Tempo paddle, an X-40 pickleball, and a PxP polo T-shirt. In return, Parliament presented PxP with a Friendship Agreement Letter and commemorative plaque, recognising the club’s role in promoting health, sport, and unity.
